Designing and Testing for Accessibility: Best Practices and Case Studies for Including Users, Generating Buy-In, and Driving Value

This session will provide attendees with an overview of accessibility, and how incorporating it in a UX practice can benefit both users and stakeholders. The presentation portion of the session will review specific rationales for integrating accessibility, how to anticipate and overcome internal challenges to inclusion, and a review of immediate best practices UX professionals can employ when designing and testing mobile and web experiences. Attendees will be invited to participate in a brief design exercise where they learn to redesign existing prototypes with accessibility in mind, followed by a detailed how-to for adapting traditional testing methods for specific populations. Finally, two case studies will be presented; the first outlining how a leading financial institution is using accessibility testing to better serve their aging and/or disabled clients, and the second focusing on design and testing for adaptive technologies, specifically at one of the world’s largest tech companies.
